RVAP advocates provide counseling that can help you process through what happened, how you have been impacted by sexual violence, and/or coping strategies in a safe and confidential space. We use a trauma-informed and strength-based approach. We believe you and we believe you know what is best for yourself.
Therapy
RVAP therapists can utilize therapeutic methods to assist you in breaking down and reconstructing the trauma in a way that is less invasive and promotes healing. While counselors and therapists have a lot in common regarding techniques, a therapist is specially trained to help treat mental illness and has more extensive training than a counselor. RVAP therapists are typically practicum students or interns who are working under the supervision of a licensed therapist.
