According to the Department of Justice, every 98 seconds someone in the United States is sexually assaulted. Since 1973, the Rape Victim Advocacy Program has existed to provide support to those impacted by sexual violence, and also to change our culture so that we can one day achieve our vision of creating a community free from sexual violence. We are the oldest stand-alone comprehensive sexual assault agency in Iowa, and one of the oldest in the country. At RVAP we provide free, confidential, trauma-informed support 24-hours a day to all who are impacted by sexual violence. This year, RVAP is experiencing drastic budget cuts of nearly $400,000 and in order to sustain our life-saving services we need your support.
Clearly our goal of ending sexual violence is much larger than one agency, one county, one state. Ending sexual violence, and continuing to create communities that are safer for victims to come forward and seek help in takes all of us. Until all of us are safe, none of us is safe. At RVAP, everything we do is rooted in our mission, and our success relies on the strength of our relationships—from the confidential advocacy and counseling services we provide, to the prevention programs we offer, to our 24/7 crisis support...relationships are the key. For this entirety of this movement, progress has always required courage, resilience, compassion, and persistence. These are same qualities that my colleagues and I have the privilege to see each and every day in the survivors we support. These are the same qualities we need from each of you.
Please join us in supporting survivors. For someone who has experienced sexual violence, the pain, blame, shame, and fear that often result can be incredibly isolating and debilitating. Please join RVAP to make sure that our services continue for as long as they are needed throughout our eight county service region in southeast Iowa. Our neighbors, our friends, our colleagues…our families…matter too much. Please add your voice to our chorus by supporting RVAP’s GOLDrush campaign. Every dollar will help – not only to sustain our critical services – but just as importantly to serve as validation for the survivors among us who are otherwise feeling othered and alone.
Please…Support Hope. Support RVAP.
