Volunteer for April's Sexual Assault Activism Month
The Clothesline Project - Wednesday, April 25
Clothesline Project Volunteer Sign Up
The Clothesline Project is a vehicle for survivors of violence and those who care for them to express their experiences with interpersonal violence. Over the last 20 years, survivors of sexual and domestic violence have decorated t-shirts with messages about the violence they survived and their healing journey. The display, which will be hosted on the Pentacrest, has a lot of moving parts and takes a crew to set up. Please sign up to volunteer and be a part of this powerful event.
National March Against Rape Culture - Saturday, April 7
This new national event was inspired by the "Me Too" movement and seeks to bring allies into the anti-violence movement. Join us as we bring survivors of sexual violence and allies together to rally at College Green, march through Iowa City to the public library, and come together for a teach-in to end sexual violence. We will need volunteers to help with directions and traffic and certified advocates to be posted in a self-care room. We need lots of people to attend so there are additional sign up spots on the SAAM Volunteer Sign Up form.
Yas Means Yas - Friday, April 27
**Now accepting submissions through April 15**
Yas Means Yas is a celebration of positive sexual experiences through art and writing. We invite any and all artists, regardless of gender, sexuality, or survivor status, to send us their work for consideration at yasmeansyas@gmail.com. We need people to attend too so there sign up spots on the SAAM Volunteer Sign Up form.
Take Back the Night - Tuesday, April 25
Take Back the Night Volunteer Sign Up
Take back the night has a long history on the campus of the University of Iowa and in the evolution of the anti-rape movement. The night consists of a rally, march, and survivor speak out, which is hosted on the Pentacrest, to stand in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence. We will need volunteers to help table and certified advocates to be posted in a self-care room. We need lots of people to attend so there are additional sign up spots on the SAAM Volunteer Sign Up form.
More Events!!!
Every SAAM, we like to have lots of volunteers and at least one staff member present at all SAAM events. Volunteers that are certified advocates with RVAP and would like to serve in that role should use the Advocate Sign Up form. Some events all or most staff attend, like Clothesline or Take Back the Night, so those events will be left off the staff form. Please sign up for one or more event--thank you!!!
